Air Pollution

Natural Causes and Effects of Air Pollution

Many people believe that air pollution is only caused by humans, but there are many other contributers. One large one is eruptions caused by volcanoes. When volcanoes erupt, forty percent of the emission is carbon dioxide. Scientists have discovered that carbon dioxide also does effect global warming. Also, when the volcano in Iceland erupted a few months ago, many flights to Europe were cancelled because the pilots were unable to see through the black ash that it unleashed into the air. This ash was still polluting the air for a few months after the volcano erupted, too. This is a current event of natural air pollution.  Another unexpected natural cause of air pollution is are forest fires. In 1996, South East Asia had a plethora of forest fires. The smoke it caused was described as a choking haze. This smoke lead to many health issues and the schools were shut down. Transportation and tourist bookings were forced to be shut down. This is another example of how natural air pollution effects people every so often
Below is list of other natural air pollution contributers:
                             wind erosion
                             pollen dispersal
                             evaporation of organic compounds
                             natural radioactivity
